Finance & Accounts
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent is responsible for representing the people of Gwent and making sure the service provided by the Police is efficient and effective. One of these responsibilities is setting the budget, including the Police precept component of Council Tax, and the distribution of Policing grants from Central Government.
Our Statement of Accounts provides information about the financial position, financial performance, management accountability of resources and any risks and uncertainties under the stewardship of the Chief Constable.
This is useful to a wide range of users including the Government, grant-awarding bodies, employees, suppliers, contractors, customers and the general public.
Both the Chief Constable and the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) are treated as a “corporation sole” and are required to produce their own single entity Statement of Accounts.

Under The Elected Local Policing Bodies (Specified Information) Order 2011, the Police and Crime Commissioner is required to publish details of all expenditure over £500 for themselves and the Chief Constable.
This information is produced monthly and is available for all months from November 2012 onwards.
Prior to any contract being awarded, budget created and therefore expenditure incurred, a robust value for money assessment is undertaken by both the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Force.
In addition to this, the organisation, in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, makes available listings of the awarded contracts, which is updated regularly detailing when contracts are awarded, extended or expire.
Community Support Officers (CSO) play an important role in helping us to build positive relationships with our communities and their vital role is also recognised by our partners who assist with funding.
