Do I need to have a driving licence at the point of application?

Not necessarily. If you are actively working towards achieving your licence, we would still welcome an application from you. However, you must pass your test prior to an offer letter being issued.

Will I live and work in the same area?

Not necessarily. You could be posted anywhere within the Force area.

Where will the training take place?

The initial classroom based training will take place at Vantage Point House, Ty Coch Way, Cwmbran.

What length of probation will I have?

Two years. During this time you'll continue to receive some classroom-based training and will be assessed in the workplace.

What are the hours like?

You'll be expected to work a rolling shift pattern, this is currently a 6 on 4 off pattern but subject to change. This includes mornings, afternoons and nights. Each shift is around nine to ten hours. It does take a while to get used to the hours and it is important to maintain your personal fitness to help you adjust.

Will I have to work on my own?

Yes - once trained, you will patrol on your own on most shifts - this is referred to as being ‘single crewed’. However, you will also be part of a wider team and will have regular support from your Sergeant and colleagues
