Inspector David Morgan

Your latest Blog from your local Inspector, David Morgan, who covers the Cwmbran and Pontypool area

Some investigations can take several months to bring to fruition. One such case saw three men from the Cwmbran area charged on 28th March, with a number of drug trafficking offences. The painstaking work was undertaken by a detective constable and has taken many hours of their time to bring this case to court. The case will be first heard at Newport Magistrates Court on 2nd May 2017.

On 27 March, a local man called Matthew Wall was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court to 4.5 years imprisonment for a variety of offences including assault, dangerous driving, robbery and affray. The robbery offence was committed on 14th January in Cwmbran and it's pleasing to see that Wall was brought to justice as quickly as he was.

Every spring we begin to see shed burglaries increase. It's crucial that owners leave nothing of any real value in their sheds and also seek to improve the security of them. Pontnewydd in Cwmbran is experiencing a higher level of offences than other areas, and I want to assure the public that my staff are fully aware of the need to be on patrol in the areas that are being affected. I urge the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour to us so we can assist in dealing with any potential perpetrators.

The investigation into the assault to a schoolgirl at Neerings that took place on 3rd March continues. An E-Fit of the suspect has now been released and whilst I cannot go into the detail of the investigation, I can assure you that some investigative leads are being pursued. In the meantime, my officers continue to remain visible in the area, particularly when children are going to and leaving school.

This is my last Blog as the Torfaen Sector Inspector. I am leaving the area to take up a new role in the Eastern Local Policing Area. My immediate successor is Sergeant Ian Green and in approximately six weeks, an inspector will have been identified to take on this wonderful role. Since January 2015 I have published 48 Blogs, and I hope they have been useful and informative. Thank you to those of you who have made contact with me in order to raise concerns about issues in your area.
