The published register is anonymised to protect private information but the nature of the Business Interest or Secondary Occupation is described. Police Officers have to abide by Police Regulations in respect of Business Interests but the Force Procedures apply to members of Police staff as well.
Business Interests are reviewed, especially if the applicant’s circumstances change or they are investigated for misconduct. If an officer or member of staff holds a Business Interest or Secondary Occupation without prior approval, they may commit a disciplinary offence.
The most common types of Business Interests held in Gwent are property rental, hobbies and crafts, and selling toiletries or cosmetics. Voluntary work does not require approval. Checks are made against the Business Interest register to ensure that there is no evidence of, or risk of, corruption by the acceptance of gifts or hospitality, or procurement processes and contracts.
