Police Cadets

Cadets are young members of the community, aged between 13 and 19, that are involved in a wide range of activities and events. As well as learning about Police procedures and the law, cadets also play a vital role in community events, engaging with members of the public and educating them on crime prevention.

About the role

The role of a Cadet is extremely varied and you will develop a wide range of skills whilst having fun and helping your local community. Cadets participate in many exciting outdoor activities such as; white-water rafting, weekend holidays and summer camps as well as assisting at community events and foot patrol at local events.

Eligibility Criteria

Potential Cadets need to be aged 13 at time of appointment and no older than 18 years, with a keen desire to get involved in their communities as well as build on their knowledge and experience through team activities and training.

Application Process

All applicants are required to complete a Cadet Application form and a Medical Questionnaire.

As part of the recruitment process all applicants will be required to be vetted to ensure there are no criminal convictions or connections that may prevent them becoming a Cadet.

Cadets will be asked to give their preferred unit option on the application form. After successfully passing the vetting stage, you will be added to a waiting list for your preferred unit. Once we have the required number of applicants for an intake, we will then contact you directly with joining information.

Units

Gwent Police Cadets have five units based in Newport, Pontypool, Abergavenny, Blackwood, and Ebbw Vale. They are run by Police Officers, Police staff and volunteers in their spare time, with costs met through some funding and subscriptions.
